Launching of the Waterdream 65’ California at the 2018 Cannes Yachting Festival |a newborn classic

What freedom feels like on the water

On Tuesday September 11th, Bernhard van Oranje’s new yacht ‘The 65’ California’, the handmade flagship of Waterdream, will be launched at the 2018 Cannes Yachting Festival. The Waterdream 65’California is a masterpiece of Dutch craftsmanship. A new classic and superlative degree in the class of 60ft plus dayboats.

The Cannes Yachting Festival (11 – 16 september) is Europe's leading in-water boat show in elegant, luxurious surroundings in the sparkling bay of Cannes, with over 500 vessels on display including 150 making their world debut. It is therefore not surprising that the ’65 California makes its entrance during this international yachting event among the other major playors in pleasure yachting like Pardo, Quintessence and VanDutch.

Nomination for the Yacht of the Year Trophy

During the event in Cannes, the European Yacht of the Year jury will gather to agree on the final 2019 nominations for the prestigious honour of 2019’s Best Power Boat. The ’65 California belongs to the top three final nominations which had been announced prior to the festival, which emphasizes the exclusive character of this boat. The other nominees are the Riva Rivale and the Sunseeker Predator 74. The winner will be announced on Saturday evening, September 15th.

The Waterdream 65’California is the latest model in already an impressive range of the Waterboat dreams. The boats of Waterdream are characterized by stability, ease of use, minimum of maintenance and unique Dutch design. With it revolutionary and timeless design, this 65 feet boat can truly be called a newborn classic. It’s designed to accommodate six guests. Bernhard van Oranje wanted to create the ultimate dayboat with sleeping capabilities. “Together with Mulder Design we have been working for three years to create something really unique with a timeless design that combines classic exterior lines in contrast with a modern interior, superb quality and handling”, he says.

With her innovative layout, beautiful finish and superior sailing skills it is the ultimate dayboat to experience what freedom feels like on the water.

A new standard for the 65 feet market

The very futuristic and modern design and naval architecture is done by Mulder Design in the Netherlands, thé Dutch specialist in the design, naval architecture and engineering of custom- and semi-custom designed mega yachts including Waterdream. With the 65’California, Waterdream sets a new benchmark for boats with a length of 20 meters. To realize this, only the best materials have been used and the boat can be completely adapted to the wishes of the owner. The entire boat is hand-crafted from high quality aluminum in Holland. Aluminum not only ensures the achievement of a considerably higher quality, it is also maintenance-free. The precise, sharp lines of the design are the sign of a classy model, a sleek silhouette that exudes dynamic elegance. Truly a joy to behold!

The 65’ California delivers a large and spacious top deck, coupled with an equally impressive interior space. Below deck we find three times a double bed, a shower, kitchen and toilet. There is also a room to lounge. Furthermore, the boat is equipped with two Volvo Penta’s IPS 1200 which will result in a topspeed of 38 knots. Optional Volvo Penta IPS 1350’s can be installed for a top-speed over 40 knots

About Waterdream

The Dutch company Waterdream was founded in 2012 by Bernhard van Oranje. The company builts and designs handcrafted premium aluminum boats and yachts of high quality, with an eye for detail. In the Netherlands Waterdream is known for their models in which they take the design of the sloop, one of the oldest designs in shipping, to a higher level. A production entirely of aluminum and a revolutionary hull design ensure that the Waterdream sloop passes the initial float function of a sloop. A seaworthy speedboat that easily reaches 80 kilometers per hour with unprecedented stability, plenty of free living space, which glides extremely efficiently over even high waves. The boats are powered by Yamaha.

With the addition of the 65 'California, Waterdream now has eight models: (s-550, s-720, s-850, s-850 Speedster, S-1100), the t-777 and the Venetian Tender.

The California line will be extended in the next years to come. “I’m very grateful that a good friend of mine gave me the trust to develop this (water)dream boat for him”, Van Oranje continues. “The California line is a superb edition to the Waterdream family. A true Dutch handmade masterpiece”. This boat will definitely attract admiring glances in every port, starting this September in Cannes.
